What is Logical and Physical Data Recovery?
Logical Data Recovery is when there is nothing mechanically wrong with your drive, meaning that the hard drive is mechanically sound: the motor, magnetic head assembly (MHA), circuit board, and platters are all in working condition.
Here are some examples that you would encounter if your hard drive is experiencing logical problems:
- A virus that corrupts your data
- Blue screen of death
- OS not found
- File system corrupt
- Disk boot failure
- Master boot recorded is corrupt
- A formatted hard drive.
Physical Data Recovery is when your hard drive’s mechanics have failed, causing the drive to become non – responsive. The hard drive is not recognized in BIOS or Windows Management.
A data recovery company with a clean room can usually repair physical damage to your hard drive by replacing the damaged parts, imaging the drive, and then performing logical file restoration.
Here are some examples that you would encounter if your hard drive is experiencing physical problems:
- Your hard drive is clicking
- Your hard drive is grinding
- Your hard drive is not spinning
- Power surges, outages and brownouts
- Disasters like floods cause water damage
- Fire damage
- Controller failure
- Read/write errors caused by head crashes
- Failed printed circuit board (PCB)
