What You See:
- System rebooted but RAID 10 is missing or degraded
- Multiple drives show “Missing” or “Foreign”
- No mountable array; OS shows boot failure or no disks
What It Likely Means:
- The RAID controller lost track of mirror/stripe alignment during sudden shutdown
- Drive order or role metadata may be misread temporarily
- RAID 10’s mirrored pairs may now be split between healthy and “foreign” drives
What NOT To Do:
- ❌ Don’t clear or reinitialize the array
- ❌ Don’t import “foreign config” unless you’re 100% sure it matches the prior working state
- ❌ Don’t assume one good mirror half means the data is intact
What You CAN Do:
- ✅ Power down safely and label drives
- ✅ Use JeannieLite to extract mirror pair mapping and controller metadata
- ✅ Record exact controller logs and event history before retrying
RAID 10 arrays can appear failed even when your data is intact — but only if you don’t overwrite it trying to fix it.
