• System rebooted but RAID 10 is missing or degraded
  • Multiple drives show “Missing” or “Foreign”
  • No mountable array; OS shows boot failure or no disks
  • The RAID controller lost track of mirror/stripe alignment during sudden shutdown
  • Drive order or role metadata may be misread temporarily
  • RAID 10’s mirrored pairs may now be split between healthy and “foreign” drives
  • ❌ Don’t clear or reinitialize the array
  • ❌ Don’t import “foreign config” unless you’re 100% sure it matches the prior working state
  • ❌ Don’t assume one good mirror half means the data is intact

RAID 10 arrays can appear failed even when your data is intact — but only if you don’t overwrite it trying to fix it.
